In March 2020 owner Halfords announced that it planned to close its Cycle Republic stores. Later a buyer was found for some of the sites, with 11 stores (Bristol, Birmingham, Derby, Edinburgh, Gateshead, Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester, Nottingham, Norwich and Southampton) being bought by the electric scooter company Pure Electric.
